Update 8:54 a.m. EDT March 19: The school identified the players as redshirt junior linebackers Jay Bias and Xavier Morris, KTRK reported.

"They were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. They had gone to the grocery store and were just getting food for breakfast," Texas A&M-Commerce Athletic Director Tim McMurray told the television station.

Original report: According to the school's athletics website, the two students were in the Miami area when the incident occurred. The school, whose officials said it became aware of the incident on Saturday, did not release the names of the athletes or the extent of their injuries, KTVT reported.

Texas A&M-Commerce football coach David Bailiff and Athletic Director Tim McMurray were traveling to Florida to be with the players and their families, officials with the school said on its website.

"The University and Intercollegiate Athletics extend our thoughts and prayers to both young men and their families," school officials said, according to KTVT.
