When Julio Teheran takes to the mound on Monday against the Miami Marlins, it will have been seven days since he last pitched. But the freshly minted All-Star isn’t worried about being rusty.

“I don’t think it’s going to affect me because that happened last year that I threw a couple of starts with 10 days rest and it didn’t affect me at all,” Teheran said.

In his last outing, Teheran (9-6) recorded a 10-7 win against Chicago on July 13, working seven innings (109 pitches, 66 strikes) and allowing seven hits, four earned runs and two home runs. The right-hander ERA is 2.71 season, lowest in the rotation.

“I know that in the first half, I threw a lot so I’m trying to rest my arm to be ready for the second half, which also has a lot of games,” Teheran said. “I’m being a little more careful with my arm and not trying to force it.”

Teheran, 23, was granted three extra days off after the break after the coaching staff concluded Thursday he could use some added downtime. Though it’s been a while, Teheran said he’s not desperate to get back on the mound but will be ready when his turn comes.

“I think it’s mental, when you put it in your mind that you have gone a lot of days without pitching and then when you get to the mound, you’re kind of lost,” Teheran said. “It’s happened to me a few times and last year it happened to me a few times but it still didn’t affect me.”
