Andy Summerlin threw for 495 yards and three touchdowns to lead Samford to 44-34 victory over visiting Georgia Southern on Saturday.
Summerlin threw scoring passes of 79, 69 and 58 yards, the final one giving the Bulldogs (4-2, 2-0 Southern Conference) a 41-27 lead with 7:17 remaining.
Georgia Southern’s Jerick McKinnon (Sprayberry) rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns, and Kevin Ellison (Habersham Central) threw two touchdown passes.
The Eagles (3-2, 1-2) built a 21-10 halftime lead on Ellison’s 24- and 58-yard scoring passes to Tray Butler (Woodland-Stockbridge).
Norfolk State 26, Savannah State 24: Norfolk State blocked John Barron's 49-yard field-goal attempt with 2 seconds left to hold off the visiting Tigers.
Savannah State’s Antonio Bostick threw for a career-high 337 yards and threw three touchdown passes, but was sacked five times and threw two interceptions.
The Tigers (1-5, 0-2 MEAC) started their final drive at the Norfolk State 47, but gained only 15 yards, setting up the field-goal attempt for Barron (Wheeler).
San Diego 45, Mercer 13: San Diego's Mason Mills threw for 413 yards and three touchdowns to hand visiting Mercer its first loss.
The Toreros (3-2, 2-0 Pioneer Football League) led Mercer (4-1, 1-1) 21-7 after one quarter, and the Bears managed two field goals from Tyler Zielenske (Walnut Grove) the rest of the way.
J.T. Palmer (Calhoun) caught four passes for 100 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown for Mercer.
Valdosta State 52, Florida Tech 14: Austin Scott rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns as the host Blazers remained undefeated.
Scott (Hardaway) scored on runs of 72 and 16 yards for the Blazers (4-0, 2-0 Gulf South Conference), who are ranked No. 1 in Division II.
Cedric O’Neal (Dublin) added 97 yards rushing, including a 62-yard touchdown run as the Blazers finished with 275 yards on the ground.
West Georgia 49, Point 3: Quan Jones (Henry County) rushed for 79 yards, had 102 yards receiving and scored twice to lead the host Wolves, who are 4-1 for the first time since 2001.
West Georgia had 612 yards of offense, second highest total in school history. The Wolves rushed for 328 yards, and three quarterbacks combined for 284 yards passing.
Jones’ 83-yard touchdown catch from Dallas Dickey (Carrollton) gave West Georgia a 21-0 first-quarter lead.
Rufus Mason rushed for 100 yards for Point (2-3), which has lost three consecutive.
