After a spectacular rookie season, Tampa Bay quarterback Jameis Winston hit the gym.

He spent part of the offseason working with trainer Tim Grover, who has also worked with NBA great Michael Jordan and Chicago Bulls guard Dwyane Wade.

Winston reportedly has dropped 20 pounds.

“It really just helps me with mobility,” Winston said. “Being able to move in the pocket.”

Winston completed 312 of 535 passes (58.3 percent) for 4,042 yards, 22 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He had a passer rating of 84.2 and was sacked 27 times.

He wants to improve his accuracy and cut down the sacks.

“People don’t realize how fast that pocket collapses in the NFL,” Winston said. “Being able to move in the pocket and create plays, not just outside the pocket, but just to be able to stand in there and create some room for yourself and still have the rhythm and the balance to make a throw down the field is very critical.”

Winston was voted as one of Tampa Bay’s captains.

“He’s definitely the leader of our football team now,” Bucs coach Dirk Koetter said. “A year ago, he was picking his spots. He was doing a good job of knowing his place as a rookie. But about halfway through that season, it became clear that he was the leader of our offense.”
