Wendy First and Tammy Wallace were inspired by the tutus they saw last year at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Peachtree Road Race.
So this year, the sisters, who are both from Atlanta, created their own tutus. They later incorporated those yellow-and-black tutus into a bumblebee outfit that was unveiled Saturday at the 46th Peachtree Road Race.
“I said, ‘Oh we’re going to be bumblebees,’” First said. “I decided to put the bumblebees on the shirt.”
Wallace made the tutus after watching a YouTube video, and First created the black shirts with a cartoon bumblebee on the front and a slogan on the back.
Neither sister has any experience in the fashion industry.
During the race, the sisters’ wardrobe drew comments from onlookers and fellow participants.
“We spent a lot of time on our outfits,” Wallace said. “We were pumped.”
