Atlanta United’s task in defeating San Jose on Wednesday may have gotten easier on Monday after the Quakes reportedly fired coach Mikael Stahre.

ESPN’s Jeffrey Carlisle posted the news. Under Stahre, 43, San Jose had just 20 points, the lowest total in the league. He will be replaced by assistant coach Steve Ralston.

The tipping point may have been the team’s 5-1 loss to Sporting KC at home last week.

San Jose is 2-7-5 at home this season. While it has scored a respectable 42 goals, it has allowed 57. Only two teams, the L.A. Galaxy and Orlando, have allowed more this season.

Atlanta United is atop the Supporters’ Shield standings with 57 points and has the highest-scoring offense in the league (59 goals).
