The Kansas City Royals requested unconditional release waivers on former Braves outfielder Jeff Francoeur Friday.

Francoeur, a former Parkview star, had been designated for assignment June 30.

Francoeur, 29, was hitting .208 with three homers and 13 RBis this season in 59 games. He is free to sign with any team.
