Rhonda Malone is going out on top.

Redan's girls basketball coach, who just led the Raiders to an undefeated season and their first state championship, has resigned as coach but will continue teaching at the school.

"She just woke up one day and said she didn't want to do it anymore," said Ron Sebree, DeKalb County's athletics director. "We're very sad about it because she's a good coach and a great role model. It shows her lack of selfishness because she's got the majority of those girls back and they could be just as good next season."

Redan went 27-0 to win the Class AAAAA title in March, and appeared to be building a dynasty. The Raiders have reached the Final Four four times in the last five years.

Malone, who could not immediately be reached for comment, went 207-97 in 11 years as head coach. The former UGA basketball player guided the Raiders to 10 straight playoff appearances after a losing record her first season.

No replacement has been named.
