Pinch hitter Greg Dobbs hit a go-ahead two-run single against his former team as the Florida Marlins rallied to beat the host Philadelphia Phillies 4-3 Friday night.
It may have been a costly loss for the NL East-leading Phillies because Roy Oswalt left with a lower back strain. Oswalt pitched six impressive innings before getting hurt. He allowed two runs and four hits, striking out six. He didn’t allow a hit until Logan Morrison led off the fifth with a home run.
There was no immediate word on the extent of Oswalt’s injury. The three-time All-Star has been on the disabled list six times in his career, though he’s made at least 30 starts eight straight seasons.
Five Marlins relievers combined for four scoreless innings after Javier Vazquez struggled through five. Edward Mujica worked the sixth. Ryan Webb pitched a perfect seventh, Randy Choate snared a line drive against the only batter he faced, and Clay Hensley got the two he faced out. Leo Nunez finished for his fifth save.
Vazquez allowed three runs and five hits. He walked four and had to pitch out of the stretch most of the night with runners on base.
Nationals 4, Brewers 3 (10 innings): Adam LaRoche's 10th-inning fielder's choice scored Jayson Werth with the winning run for host Washington.
With one out, Werth grounded to shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt, who threw wildly to first. Werth took second on the error. Werth then stole third without a throw.
After the steal, the Brewers played a five-man infielder with left fielder Ryan Braun playing between first and second. LaRoche bounced to first against Zach Braddock, and Prince Fielder's throw home pulled catcher Jonathan Lucroy off the plate as Werth scored.
Pirates 6, Reds 1: Charlie Morton pitched his second career complete game — limiting the NL’s most prolific lineup to five hits in gusty winds — to help visiting Pittsburgh end a four-game losing streak.
Gusts played havoc with fly balls — one of Cincinnati’s wind-blown flies landed for a hit.
Padres 4, Astros 2: Chris Denorfia doubled and homered for visiting San Diego, and Ryan Ludwick drove in a pair of runs in a three-run seventh inning.
