The Pro Day season has arrived.
While most NFL teams have compiled their research, scouts and personnel executives will make their final rounds to campuses for Pro Days to evaluate prospects for the NFL Draft on May 8-10.
Auburn gets things underway with one of the nation’s first Pro Days on Tuesday.
In addition to the Pro Day workouts at various campuses, teams will also set up private workouts with prospects.
Auburn tackle Greg Robinson, a redshirt sophomore who is considered a top 10 draft prospect, will headline the Tigers’ Pro Day. The Falcons, who are set to pick sixth overall, are in need of help in the offensive line and are set to attend.
Robinson showed strength and agility in the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis last month. He weighed in at 332 pounds, ran the 40-yard dash in 4.92 seconds and lifted 225 pounds 32 times. A native of Thibodaux, La., Robinson could stay in the Southeast if selected by the Falcons.
“It would mean a lot (to stay close to home), but I’m not banking on that,” he said. “I don’t have anything in my head to where I want to go since I can’t choose.”
For the record, Robinson also believes he’s the best tackle in the draft.
“But I’m pretty sure that everybody else feels the same,” Robinson said. “You just have to conduct yourself that way and try to make the best out of it.”
In addition to Robinson, Kenneth Carter, Steven Clark, Chris Davis, Nosa Eguae, Dee Ford, Jake Holland, Jake Lembke, Tre Mason, Cody Parkey, Blake Poole, Jay Prosch, Craig Sanders, Ryan Smith and Ryan White will all take part in Auburn’s Pro Day.
The Falcons will be represented, but will likely request a private workout for a player of Robinson’s stature.
“Being in Atlanta is a real positive for us and being around the SEC and a lot of big time programs,” Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said. “There are programs that we can get to more than one time and the accessibility (is good).
“The people that we know around those universities might be around the Atlanta area as well. It’s not only about your personnel evaluations. It’s about the interaction and speaking with people who are outside of the program as well.”
Georgia Tech’s Pro Day is set for March 28 and Georgia’s April 16. Both dates will be important for their top players.
Former Georgia Tech defensive end/linebacker Jeremiah Attaochu is recovering from hamstring and hand injuries suffered in the Senior Bowl.
“I should be ready by then,” said Attaochu, who hopes to improve his draft status. “I played in a 3-4 the first three years of my career. I played in the 4-3 over my last year of my career. That kind of made me more versatile and be able to do both.”
Former Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray is recovering from anterior cruciate ligament surgery in his left knee and is still limited physically.
“I’m pretty much doing everything already, just not full speed,” Murray said. “We’re continuing to build up, get stronger, get more flexible every day. It feels great. By Pro Day, my doctors and myself believe I’ll be good to go.”
The Falcons as well as the rest of the teams with top draft position will travel to Columbia, S.C. for South Carolina’s Pro Day after defensive end Jadeveon Clowney skipped the field drills at the combine. He will do that work on his Pro Day, which is set for April 2.
Save the date.
