Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen’s first full-time coaching job was at Bowling Green, when he worked as the quarterbacks coach under Urban Meyer in 2001 and 2002.

Mullen on Saturday night’s opponent, Bowling Green: “The chip on their shoulder is the opportunity to play a SEC school. We get to do it eight times a year, they get to do it once so it’s a pretty big opportunity for those guys.”

The Bulldogs’ 21-20 victory over Bowling Green marked their 11th consecutive nonconference win at home.

Alabama: Coach Nick Saban is now 6-0 against Kentucky, including three wins as LSU’s coach.

“We need to improve and try to dominate the competition, and I think we did that tonight,” Saban said after Saturday’s win.

“But I also think we made a lot of mistakes. We turned the ball over a couple of times, dropped some passes. If you want to be the best, you can’t be satisfied with that, so there are some things we definitely need to improve on.”
