Two weeks after surgery to stabilize his spine, Georgia baseball player Johnathan Taylor moved out of intensive care Monday.

He also celebrated his 21st birthday.

Taylor, of Acworth, was seriously injured during a March 6 game when he collided head-on with a teammate as both chased a line drive in the outfield. He underwent surgery the following afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens before being transported to Atlanta's Shepherd Center days later.

Taylor's long-term prognosis is not yet known. But his family and friends, including Bulldog teammates and coaches, are optimistic "J.T." will make a full recovery.

"Johnathan and his family can't thank everyone enough for their support during this time," Taylor's family posted on his CaringBridge website.

Since Taylor's injury, thousands of people have been to the site, many leaving words of encouragement and tributes.

Taylor was a standout player at North Cobb High School.
