Q&A: Dunwoody's Aaron Easterling
Dunwoody's senior center Aaron Easterling, who averages seven rebounds and five points, had 12 rebounds and 11 points in a recent 53-35 victory against Lithonia. The 6-foot-5 Easterling, who also plays linebacker for the Wildcats' football team, recently spoke with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Q. What game are you proudest of?
A. Against Lithonia, I think we played really well. Our energy was high, but we have to keep that going for four quarters. I'm proudest of whatever game we win. I think I rebounded and did well fighting for the ball in that game, as well as finishing when I had chances.
Q. What's the key to strong rebounding?
A. Basically, it's timing, getting position and trying not to get boxed out. You have to be very physical. You have to want it more than the next guy.
Q. Any embarrassing moments on the court?
A. I'm going to get teased over this one, but I air-balled a free throw once. It kind of slipped, but the guys still tease me.
Q. Can this team reach the playoffs for the first time in three seasons?
A. This region we're in [Region 6-AAA] is really tough. Basically, we have to put the ball in the hoop. That's what it all comes down to.
Q. If you were a foot shorter, what sport might you be playing instead?
A. I might be a wrestler. I like it because it's a physical sport, man-on-man and short people can win. Besides, I wrestled my freshman year and liked it, but my neck was killing me the whole season, so I had to change.
Q. Who do you have on speed dial?
A. My mom, my brother and Papa John's. That's about it.
Q. Which teammates impress you most?
A. Darrell Strozier carries us night in and night out and David Adeboye is a great facilitator and keeps our tempo up-pace and keeps us motivated. Marcus Wilson is undersized as a small forward, but makes up for it with his athleticism and speed.
Q. Which do you like better, being a center in basketball or linebacker in football?
A. I'd say linebacker because that's what I'm going to [likely] do in college. Football was always my first love.
