Update: The Hawks announced that they have requested waivers on Antawn Jamison later Friday afternoon.

Antawn Jamison will not be a Hawk.

The Hawks will waive the forward Friday, one day after he was obtained at the trade deadline from the Clippers.

The Hawks also signed forward Cartier Martin for the remainder of the season. Martin was waived Thursday hours before his second and final 10-day contract expired to clear a roster spot for Jamison. Martin played the first 25 games of the season with the Hawks and was waived before his contract became guaranteed. After playing two 10-day contracts with the Bulls he re-joined the Hawks on two 10-day contracts. Per NBA rules, the Hawks could only sign Martin for the rest of the season or had to cut ties with him.

Hawks general manager Danny Ferry indicated it was possible that Jamison would not join the team following the trade.

“We’ll look at Antwan over the next couple of days and decide if it’s the best fit for each other,” Ferry said Thursday following the deal.

Ultimately, the Hawks were looking for a player who could play both power forward and center - as they had with Al Horford, Pero Antic and Gustavo Ayon before they were injured. Jamison is more of a power forward in the mold of Paul Millsap and Mike Scott.

Jamison will become an unrestricted free agent should he clear waivers.

In other news Friday, the Hawks re-called Jared Cunningham from the NBA Development League.
