Brad Guzan is scheduled to join Atlanta United on Monday, according to manager Gerardo Martino.
However, Guzan will be with the team only a week because he will then join the U.S. team training for the Gold Cup, which runs July 7-26.
Guzan's signing of a multi-year deal was announced Jan. 25 . However, he was under contract with Middlesbrough in the English Premier League and couldn't play for the MLS side until its secondary transfer window opens July 1. He can train with Atlanta United.
The 32-year-old has 54 appearances for the U.S. men’s national team, including starting in last week’s 1-1 draw at Mexico in World Cup qualifying game.
After playing in college at South Carolina, Guzan made 79 appearances for Chivas USA in MLS before being transferred to Aston Villa in England’s Premier League. He made 144 appearances for the team. He also played Hull City and Middlesbrough, where he made nine appearances.
Alec Kann has started each of Atlanta United’s 14 games, as well as its 3-2 win over Charleston in Wednesday’s U.S. Open Cup game. Kann has a 1.57 goals-against average, third-highest among consistent starters in the league. Kann has faced 73 shots, fifth-most, and has 49 saves, tied for fifth-most.
Atlanta United also has Alex Tambakis and Kyle Reynish as goalkeepers.
