BRENDON TODD
33-33 – 66
A Brookhaven resident and former Georgia Bulldog, he finally put together his first sub-par round at the Tour Championship, a little something to whet his interest in returning one day for a second crack at the playoff finale. The 4 under was far too late to put Todd into contention. But it was a windfall for the local East Lake Foundation. Before the tournament he pledged $500 to the foundation for every birdie this week. He wasn’t going to have to dig very deep by the look of his first three rounds. But his seven birdies Sunday matched his total from his first three rounds (pushing his total pledge to $7,000).
JASON DAY
35-34 – 69
He finished his tournament birdie-birdie on two very thorny holes. But that wasn’t going to get him the spectacular round he had hoped to manufacture. “I felt like I needed to shoot 6 under today. That was my goal at the start of the week (12 under for the tournament), so I was five short. I made a lot of soft bogeys throughout the week,” he said. But, mostly, Day sounded happy just to be through with an injury-marred year. He was actually looking forward to rehab. “I just want a healthy year where I can practice hard and get ready for tournaments,” he said.
BUBBA WATSON
37-36 – 73
Sunday was a classic Bubba being Bubba kind of round. From the first hole — only the third double bogey there all week — to the last — only the third birdie there Sunday — he managed the kind of schizophrenic round that is a Watson specialty. A wild drive right on the par 4 No. 1 stranded him in the Bermuda rough (where he remained after his second shot traveled but 45 yards). A 42-foot birdie putt on No. 18 salved some of the wounds. There was a certain symmetry to his four days at East Lake, a regular kind of irregularity. Those rounds were 67-73-67-73.
