Georgia Tech linebacker Quez Jackson leads the ACC in tackles per game, and Yellow Jackets defensive coordinator Andrew Thacker thinks Jackson is a natural at that part of the game.

“Some people talk about drills, tackling better and sometimes you get guys that have the instinct of it,” Thacker said. “I have to train Quez on a bunch of other techniques and fundamentals, but tackling is none of those things. It just comes natural.”

While Tech’s defense received much criticism for missed tackles and assignments and miscommunication in Tech’s 26-17 loss to Virginia Tech on Saturday, Jackson had a career day. He finished tied for first on the team in tackles. He and linebacker Ayinde Eley recorded 16. That was a career-high for Jackson.

Thacker was ecstatic about Jackson’s productivity not only in Saturday’s game, but also in practice Tuesday.

“I’m proud of Quez, specifically today,” Thacker said. “He brought energy, motivation and leadership to the defense. I am glad that piece is paying off.”
