Patriots trade former Bulldog Sony Michel to Rams

The New England Patriots traded running back Sony Michel to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for two conditional draft picks — in the fifth and sixth rounds in 2022 — the teams reported Wednesday.

New England selected Michel out of Georgia with the 31st pick in the 2018 NFL draft. He was the third UGA player — Roquan Smith (8th overall) and Isaiah Wynn (23rd) — drafted in the first round that year.

Michel missed most of last season with a quadriceps injury. Michel will be a free agent after the season as New England elected not to exercise a fifth-year option for 2022.

In four seasons, Michel has rushed for 2,292 yards and 14 touchdowns in 28 starts. He won a Super Bowl in Atlanta with New England against the Rams, contributing 94 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. The touchdown set a rookie postseason record.
