Georgia will break out its infamous black jerseys Friday for the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl against Cincinnati (Noon, ESPN) in Atlanta.

The team announced the move on Twitter.

The Bulldogs donned the black jerseys for quarterback JT Daniels’ debut against Mississippi State in Athens earlier this season.

Dating to 2007, the Bulldogs are 4-1 in black jerseys — the one loss remains among the school’s most humiliating defeats, a 38-10 blowout by Alabama in 2008 in Athens.

The uniform decision, coach Kirby Smart said Thursday, was made by the bowl.

After becoming Georgia’s coach in December 2015, Smart has said he wants to occasionally incorporate them into the Bulldogs’ uniform rotation since it’s one of the school’s primary colors. But also, he emphasized for UGA not to make a big deal about it.

Under Smart, Georgia has worn them only twice before. The first was four years ago in a 35-21 win over Louisiana-Lafayette on Nov. 19, 2016.

The numbers aren’t lying about Kirby Smart's Bulldogs. Their defense declined from elite to just very good in 2024, and that margin matters for a program with national championship aspirations. (Jason Getz/AJC)
