Former Virginia Tech Head Coach Frank Beamer will become the 46th member inducted into the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Hall of Fame, the bowl announced on Sunday.
Beamer was the winningest active coach in FBS history at the time of his retirement in 2015, having tallied a career record of 238-121-2 in 29 years at Virginia Tech. Under Beamer, Virginia Tech football made 23 consecutive bowl appearances.
“To be able to recognize a coach who is one of the best coaches in the history of college football is a true honor,” Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl CEO and President Gary Stokan said. “As a former Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl champion and Dodd Trophy winner, we are proud of what Coach Beamer achieved on and off the field during his 29 years at the helm of the Hokies.”
The Hokies played in the Chick-fil-A Bowl twice under Beamer in 2006 and 2009, beating Tennessee in the latter game.
Beamer guided his alma mater to four Atlantic Coast Conference championships, five ACC Coastal Division crowns, three Big East Conference titles, six BCS appearances, two major bowl victories and a trip to the BCS National Championship game in 2000.
Beamer was named the ACC Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2005, was the consensus National Coach of the Year in 1999, and was named the recipient of The Dodd Trophy, college football's most coveted coaching award, that same year.
In 2017, Beamer was appointed to the College Football Playoff selection committee and also received the Neyland Trophy for his contributions to the game. He was inducted into the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 1997. He continues to serve Virginia Tech as an ambassador for its athletic program.
Other members of the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Hall of Fame, which was established in 2002, include Mike Singletary, Reggie White, Jim Kelly, Bobby Dodd, Vince Dooley and Lou Holtz.
