Accomplished middle- and long-distance runner Kirubel Erassa has joined the Atlanta Track Club Elite.
Erassa, 22, was born in Ethiopia, but grew up in Georgia and attended Grayson High School from 2007-2010. While at Grayson, he won multiple state championships running track and cross country. Erassa also won a national championship title in track.
His success continued at Oklahoma State University where he finished his career as a seven-time All American and seven-time Big 12 Conference champion. Erassa earned six titles in track and one in cross country. His best mile time is 3:58.76, and his best 5,000 meters time is 13:27.55.
The athletes that represent the Atlanta Track Club Elite train with other Atlanta-based athletes and compete in races at the local, regional and national level. Erassa is just the newest addition to a team that has recently brought in a few other accomplished runners.
• Christy Cazzola, a five-time NCAA Division III record holder and 17-time national champion from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
• Matt McDonald was a three-time NCAA national qualifier in track and cross country while at Princeton University and an Ivy League champion in the 10,000 meters.
• Andrew McLain was a seven-time NCAA Division II All-American at Lewis University in Chicago and the Great Lakes Valley Conference champion in the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters.
