Statistical analyses across multiple NFL seasons conclude that recovering fumbles is almost entirely a matter of luck. But Falcons coach Dan Quinn said he believes there are ways to improve his team's chances.

The Falcons have forced eight fumbles through six games and recovered just one. They rank last in the league in the percentage of forced fumbles recovered.

“We know we’ve got to keep forcing them because you are not going to recover every one of them,” Quinn said. “(But) there is a real technique to recovering fumbles: when you are in the open, when you are in traffic how you slide and cradle to go for it. There is an emphasis of technique that goes with it. We recognize that not every fumble you cause you are going to get but we need to get more, that’s for sure.”
