Who the Georgia Bulldogs will play in nonconference games

After Thad Matta turned down Georgia's offer, the school may turn to Tom Crean. Crean was born March 25, 1966 in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. Crean's wife, Joani, is the sister of Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh and Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh. Georgia reportedly reached out to Crean to gauge his interest in the job soon after it fired Mark Fox. Crean previously coached at Marquette and Indiana. The Georgia Bulldogs’ nonconference schedule for men’s basketball was released, and UGA will open the season Nov. 9 at Stegeman Coliseum against Savannah State.

The Dogs’ first road game comes the next week when they travel to Philadelphia to play Temple on Nov. 13. Then Georgia returns home to face Sam Houston State on Nov. 16.

In a previously announced appearance on Grand Cayman island, Georgia will meet Illinois State at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 19, followed by Akron or Clemson at either noon or 2:30 p.m. the next day. The Bulldogs’ third game on Grand Cayman will come Nov. 21 against either Boise State, Creighton, Georgia State or St. Bonaventure.

Kennesaw State will head to Athens for a game Nov. 27.

In December games, Georgia will play Texas Southern (Dec. 3), Arizona State (Dec. 15), Oakland (Dec. 18) and Massachusetts (Dec. 30) at home and at Georgia Tech (Dec. 22).

In another previously announced game, Georgia will face Texas on Jan. 26 in Athens as part of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge.
