What Tech fans need to know about the Seminoles

Oct 5, 2009

Record: 2-3 (0-2 ACC)

Last week: Lost to Boston College 28-21 in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Last time played Tech: FSU lost 31-28 in 2008 at Bobby Dodd Stadium.

FSU on offense: The Seminoles had four chances from BC's 1-yard line to score last week and couldn't. Statistically, there's no reason why. FSU is averaging 130 rushing yards and 271 passing yards a game. The biggest culprit is turnovers. FSU has lost eight fumbles and thrown seven interceptions this season.

FSU on defense: Remember Deion Sanders and Terrell Buckley? They could come back as middle-aged men and likely play better than the Seminoles' cornerbacks now. FSU is giving up 295 passing yards a game and opponents are averaging 112 on the ground as well. Coach Bobby Bowden says he thinks his defensive line needs to get stronger and tougher.

FSU on special teams: Kicker Dustin Hopkins is 4-for-7 on field goals this season but all three of his misses are from 40 or more yards. He's also very strong on kick-offs , with nine touchbacks and a 65-yard average this season. Punter Shawn Powell averages 40.2 yards per kick.

What you need to know: QB Christian Ponder is completing 67 percent of his passes at 12 yards a completion.

What you may not know: The Seminoles are 0-2 in the ACC for the first time since joining the conference in 1992.
