In their first week as the top-ranked Division II team in the country, West Georgia defeated Mississippi College 38-21 on Saturday to remain undefeated.
The rushing attack was the difference in the game, as the Wolves (9-0) averaged 7.1 yards per carry for 311 yards and four touchdowns. LeMarcus Franks led the team with 109 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries, while Devontae Jackson gained 90 yards on six carries.
Quarterback Dallas Dickey completed only 4 of 9 passes for 96 yards and a touchdown, but he had nine carries for 97 yards and a rushing touchdown.
The Wolves jumped ahead early with a 46-yard touchdown pass from Dickey to Qa Walker only 1:52 into the game.
The Choctaws answered with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Meadows to Marcel Newson.
Less than a minute later, Wolves receiver Shaq Hall recovered a fumble in the end zone to give the team a 14-7 lead in the first quarter.
The Choctaws opened the second quarter with a 71-yard touchdown pass from Meadows to Newson for their second touchdown of the game and tied the score at 14-14.
After that touchdown, the Wolves took over the game. Franks’ 1-yard touchdown was the last score of the first half, giving the team a 21-14 lead.
In the second half, the Wolves scored three more times before the Choctaws were able to put any more points on the scoreboard.
Dickey rushed for a 19-yard touchdown in the third quarter, and kicker Hunter Heck made a 37-yard field goal to stretch the lead to 31-14.
Franks found the end zone again for his second touchdown of the game on a 4-yard run early in the fourth quarter to stretch the lead to 38-14.
The Choctaws returned a fumble for a touchdown with 9:13 left in the fourth quarter, but the team was unable to put together a comeback.
The Wolves travel to Melbourne, Fla., next week to protect their undefeated season against Florida Tech.
