UGA-UF game to stay in Jacksonville

Sept 23, 2009

ATHENS – The Georgia-Florida football game will remain in Jacksonville through at least 2016.

The UGA Athletic Board this afternoon unanimously approved a recommendation from UGA athletics director Damon Evans to keep the game in Jacksonville for six years beyond the end of the current contract in 2010.

"I strongly believe staying in Jacksonville at this time is the most appropriate thing to do," Evans told the board. UGA President Michael Adams said he was "in full support" of Evans' recommendation.

The Georgia-Florida game has been played in Jacksonville for all but two years since 1933, but there has been much debate among Georgia fans about whether the game should be moved to the campuses or perhaps played occasionally in Atlanta.
