Georgia Tech filed paperwork on three minor NCAA violations committed in recent weeks, two of them involving members of the football staff. The violations report was obtained through an open-records request.

Offensive-line coach Mike Sewak placed an inadvertent video call to a rising high-school senior prospect June 25. He ended the call when he realized the error. NCAA rules prohibit more than one call to a prospect (or his or her guardians) before the beginning of his senior year, and that must occur in a specific window in the spring.

Player personnel assistant director Saeed Khalif made a similar error June 17, accidentally dialing the mother of a rising high-school senior player. He did not complete the call. During a prospect’s recruitment, except for matters relating to official visits or camp attendance, only members of the coaching staff may make phone calls. Both Khalif and Sewak received letters of admonishment and were given rules education.

Because of an apparent communications failure, a female athlete whose financial aid for the 2013-14 academic year was cancelled was not properly notified nor provided the right to appeal the cancellation. The aid was restored retroactively. The identity of the athlete was redacted because of federal laws.

Tech rated them as Level III violations, defined as “isolated or limited in nature” and providing a minimal advantage in recruiting or competition.

At the movies: The athletic department will host a screening of "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" at Bobby Dodd Stadium on Friday. A fireworks display will follow the 8 p.m. showing. Fans are invited to watch from the field. Admission is free to the event, which follows last Friday's showing of "Muppets Most Wanted." Season-ticket holders can enter at 7 p.m., followed by admission for the general public at 7:30 p.m.

Mason was recently named to the watch list for the Outland Trophy, given to the nation's top lineman, offense or defense. … Tech's first day of preseason practice will be July 31.
