Georgia Tech scored twice in the late going to close to within one goal before giving up an empty-netter in the last minute to lose to top-ranked Chapman 11-9 in the semifinals of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association national championship in Orange, Calif., on Thursday night.
In a clash of the nation’s final two undefeated club teams, Tech led by as many as two goals in the second quarter, lost the lead in the third period and was never able to catch up. The Yellow Jackets finished 16-1, the most wins in a season dating to the club’s start in 1971.
