Following its loss to Notre Dame Saturday, Georgia Tech dropped six spots in the Associated Press poll to No. 20. The Yellow Jackets also fell in the coaches poll from 16 to 20.
They are the fourth-highest ranked team with one loss in the AP poll, following No. 12 Alabama, No. 13 Oregon and No. 19 USC. The same is the case in the coaches poll.
In the 30-22 loss to Notre Dame, the Jackets lost the opportunity to potentially move into the top 10. A road win over a top-10 opponent combined with losses by Alabama and USC might have made room for Tech.
The Fighting Irish moved up from No. 8 to No. 6 after their win.
Tech will play Duke in the ACC opener for both teams Saturday in Durham, N.C. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
