As Georgia Tech commit Jaytlin Askew nears the end of his senior football season at McEachern High School, the senior cornerback clearly see his future as a Yellow Jackets.

Other than the growing stakes of his football team and academic life, the 3-star senior from Douglasville, Ga. doesn't think college will be much of a change. Looking past graduation and when he steps enrolls early at Tech in January, Askew is most excited about participating in workouts with his new teammates.

“I want to see if I’m going to survive the first week — I hear that’s one of the hardest times,” Askew said. “I’m kind of nervous, but excited for it and see how the Georgia Tech (recruiting) class is going to be. I’m just gonna have fun for my next four years in college.”
Although he’s had four fun-filled years at McEachern, Askew insists he’s not sentimental about his last days as a high school student and cornerback.

“At playoff time, win or lose, I’m going to be happy,” Askew said. “I don’t think I’ll be one of the ones that will cry or anything. I’m excited to go to college and start a new level. I’ve done so much in high school, I feel like it’s time for me to go to college and explode.”

In Askew’s senior season, the McEachern Indians are 7-1 and on a six-game win streak as they head into Friday’s division game against Marietta High School.

As he does every week, Askew will be matched against Marietta’s best receiver, a responsibility he loves.

“Whoever their best receiver is, I have him all day and I just take him away from the game,” Askew said. “I like that our coaches have that trust for me that I can go ahead and catch him.”
