After sitting out of spring practice as he recovered from thumb surgery, Georgia Tech center Freddie Burden feels significantly better.

“As far as being healthy, I feel better than ever, 100 percent,” Burden said Saturday at the team’s media day. “Probably the best I’ve felt going into any season.”

The game has taken a toll on Burden, who has started for the Yellow Jackets the past two seasons. He missed his redshirt freshman season (2013) after tearing his ACL in spring practice at the end of his first-year freshman season. He had surgery after the 2014 season to repair a thumb injury. He aggravated the injury in the 2015 season and continued to play despite needing to have surgery again after the season.

Despite the injuries, Burden has started 26 consecutive games – every game in 2014 and 2015 – tied with quarterback Justin Thomas for the longest active streak on the team. Having Burden in top physical form would be a significant boost to Tech’s chances for the season, as the Jackets will rely upon him to play a lead role on an offensive line that was inconsistent in 2015.
