Georgia Tech quarterback TaQuon Marshall has made an impression on starting quarterback Justin Thomas after three days of preseason camp. With his playmaking ability, Marshall was one of the standouts of spring practice after moving from A-back to quarterback.

“I think so far in the film room, he knows a lot more and he has more of a comfort level in what he’s doing,” Thomas said Saturday at the team’s media day.

Marshall played quarterback in high school at Harris County High, but played A-back last season as a freshman. He was moved to quarterback in the spring in part because of a surplus of A-backs and also to give backup quarterback Matthew Jordan added competition. Marshall showed playmaking flair in the running game, but needs to deepen his grasp of the offense.

“TaQuon’s going to be TaQuon,” Thomas said. “He’s a great player. He’s shifty, he does all those things, but I think the main thing for this fall camp is him just knowing the offense more, making sure he knows his checks and all that, and just getting mentally into the game. Instead of just being an A-back, knowing one thing, now he has to know what everyone has to do.”

Jordan was listed second on the depth chart coming out of the spring ahead of Marshall.
