Jacob Huesman threw for a career-high 359 yards and rushed for 99 yards to lead host Chattanooga to a 38-31 victory over Mercer on Saturday.

Huesman threw two touchdown passes and ran for another for the Mocs (5-3, 4-0 Southern Conference).

John Russ threw for 293 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another for Mercer (5-4, 1-4), which has lost two consecutive games in its first season in the Southern Conference.

Alex Lakes added 100 yards rushing on 20 carries for the Bears.

Benedict 33, Morehouse 15: Marcus Graham threw for two touchdowns and ran for one as host Benedict defeated Morehouse.

Jordan Tarver ran for two touchdowns, and Shelton Hamilton rushed for 63 yards for Morehouse (4-4, 2-3 SIAC), which lost its third consecutive game.

Morehouse cut Benedict’s lead to 16-9 on Tarver’s 1-yard run in the third quarter, but Benedict (4-4, 2-3) scored the next 17 points.

Albany State 34, Clark Atlanta 12: Albany State won its fifth consecutive game to improve to 5-2 and 4-0 in the SIAC.

The Golden Rams have held their opponents to 33 points in the past five games and have two shutouts in the streak.

Clark Atlanta fell to 2-6 and 0-5 in the SIAC.

Valdosta State 37, Shorter 6: Jake Medlock threw for 199 yards and four touchdowns to lead the host Blazers to their third consecutive victory.

Medlock threw for touchdown passes of 54, 16, 10 and 4 yards for the Blazers (5-2, 3-2 Gulf South), and Cedric O’Neal added 125 yards.

Valdosta State has outscored its past three opponents a combined 143-12 and hasn’t given up a touchdown since the 5:28 mark of the fourth quarter of the game against North Alabama (more than three games).

Eric Dodson rushed for 84 yards and threw for 78 to lead Shorter (3-4, 1-3), which has lost three consecutive.

Reinhardt 49, Cumberlands 23: L.J. Stegall rushed for 175 yards on four carries — including touchdown runs of 86 and 81 yards — to lead the visiting Eagles to their fourth consecutive win.

Stegall set a school record with his 86-yard run as Reinhardt (5-3) rushed for 387 yards. He also caught a pass for 43 yards and returned four kickoffs for 113 yards.

Johnathon Chamblee also threw for 208 yards and three touchdowns for the Eagles.

Birmingham-Southern 23, Berry 17: Mickey Courtney threw for 208 yards as host Birmingham-Southern held off Berry.

Dale Jackson was 24-of-55 for 259 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions for Berry. Chris Lilly had six catches for 96 yards for the Vikings (2-5).
