A hefty heave

As an offensive lineman, Sebastian Tretola doesn’t often get to touch the ball.

So he made the most of his opportunity in Arkansas’ 45-17 victory over UAB on Saturday.

Under a heavy rush, Tretola threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to long snapper Alan D’Appollonio on a trick play to give the Razorbacks a 28-0 lead against the Blazers.

Tretola is listed at 6-foot-5, 350 pounds and his touchdown pass led to plenty of tweets, including this one from ESPNU: “BREAKING: There is a QB Controversy in Arkansas.”

Strong start for freshman

Johnny McCrary, a redshirt freshman who played at Cedar Grove High, became the fourth quarterback to start for Vanderbilt this season.

He set career highs in completions, attempts and yards, going 17-of-31 for 196 yards with touchdown passes of 9 and 29 yards to try to rally the Commodores in their 24-14 loss to Missouri.

McCrary had played in two previous games before earning the start and has three touchdown passes and three interceptions this season.

Numbers game

8.6 Yards averaged by Mississippi State running back Josh Robinson in the top-ranked Bulldogs' 45-31 victory at Kentucky. He finished with 198 yards rushing and scored on a 73-yard run that gave Mississippi State a 38-24 lead in the fourth quarter.

385 Missouri's total offense in its victory over Vanderbilt, which easily surpassed its total of 266 yards from the Tigers' past two games against Georgia and Florida. They had 147 yards in their loss to the Bulldogs and 119 in their win over the Gators.

He said it

“It was nuts when I initially threw the ball. I thought I missed it because of the crowd. You kind of listen to the crowd, so I didn’t know if I got it, but they gradually started getting louder, and I was like, ‘All right. I got it. I got it.” It worked out. It was a great feeling.” — Arkansas’ Tretola on his touchdown pass.

“It’s good to see him getting some of his karma back, maybe.” — Missouri coach Gary Pinkel on quarterback Maty Mauk, who threw for 141 yards and two touchdowns and no interceptions after being picked off in two consecutive losses.
