Ron Hunter earns coach of the year award

Georgia State men’s basketball coach Ron Hunter was named the winner of the Clarence Gaines College Basketball Coach of the Year Award on Wednesday.

The award is given annually to the top under-recognized college basketball coach on the Division I and Division II level. It is voted on by a panel of National Sportscaster and Sportswriter Association members.

Hunter led the Panthers to the Sun Belt’s regular season championship, tournament championship and to a win over Baylor in the second round of the NCAA tournament last season.

The Panthers went 25-10, one of just 20 programs in the country to win 25 or more games in each of the last two years.
