An Arizona couple that accused Georgia Tech basketball coach Josh Pastner of sexually assaulting the woman in February 2016 faces criminal charges related to their report, according to Mark Schlabach of ESPN.
Schlabach reports that according to Oro Valley Municipal Court records, Ron Bell was charged Friday with providing false information to law enforcement and facilitation of a fraud scheme practice.
Schlabach reports that documents in the Oro Valley Magistrate court allege that Bell and his girlfriend, Jennifer Pendley, “engaged in a plan or scheme ... to allege a false, fraudulent accusation of sexual assault against Josh Pastner with the goal of obtaining an anticipated civil monetary settlement/judgment.”
Oro Valley is located near Tucson.
Pastner previously denied the allegations by Bell and Pendley, and he filed a defamation lawsuit in January 2018.
