The Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl announced Monday that the upcoming season’s game, which will be a semifinal in the College Football Playoff, is sold out.

This marks the earliest sellout of a semifinal game since the playoff began two seasons ago, a Peach Bowl spokesman said.

Peach Bowl Inc. president and CEO Gary Stokan called this season’s bowl — scheduled for Dec. 31 at either 3 p.m. or 7 p.m. in the Georgia Dome — “the most significant college football game ever played in Atlanta.”

More than 45,900 tickets were sold to local and regional buyers, with 97 percent of last season’s Peach Bowl ticket buyers renewing their purchases. The remaining tickets are allocated to the bowl’s participating teams, which will be set by the College Football Playoff selection committee on Dec. 4. Because the participating teams will be responsible for those tickets, they are considered sold for the bowl’s purposes.

The game will either match the selection committee’s Nos. 1 and 4 teams or its Nos. 2 and 3 teams, with the winner advancing to the national championship game.

College Football Playoff executive director Bill Hancock, in a statement, called Atlanta’s early sellout “a real tribute to the community’s support of college football, and to the popularity of the playoff.”

Peach Bowl officials said access to resold tickets may be found via the bowl’s official secondary-market ticket exchange through Ticketmaster. A limited number of VIP packages, which include tickets and hospitality, are available through the bowl’s ticket package provider, PrimeSport.
