Georgia Tech gained needed depth on the offensive line with Thursday’s commitment of center Paula Vaipulu, from Channelview, Texas. Vailpulu made his announcement via Twitter on Thursday morning.
Vaipulu, listed at 6-foot-3 and 303 pounds, became the seventh offensive lineman to commit to coach Geoff Collins’ 2020 signing class, but the first prospect listed as a center. Tech has 11 scholarship offensive linemen on the roster (12 counting two-way lineman Jahaziel Lee), and two will complete their eligibility this season, and another four will be seniors next year (Kenny Cooper, Jack DeFoor, Connor Hansen and Lee).
Vaipulu listed scholarship offers from Boston College, Missouri, Nebraska, Arizona, Houston and Mississippi State, among others. Vaipulu made his official visit to Tech in June.
He is rated a three-star prospect, the No. 17 center in the country and the No. 118 prospect in Texas (247Sports Composite). Tech is now at 23 commitments for the 2020 class.
Channelview is a suburb of Houston.
Not counting former Tech guard Parker Braun, who played one high-school season in Texas, Tech has not had a signee from the state of Texas since the 2009 signing class.
