Georgia Tech forward Marcus Georges-Hunt is not quite the man he once was.

Georges-Hunt, the Yellow Jackets’ leading returning score and the team’s unquestioned leader, weighs 213 pounds with eight percent body fat. A year ago, as a sophomore, he was 219 at 10 percent. As a freshman, he weighed 230 pounds with a body-fat percentage of 15 percent.

“I feel lighter when I’m jumping,” he said Tuesday, as Tech held its media day in advance of the start of practice on Friday. “I feel more explosive.”

With strength and conditioning coach Mike Bewley, Georges-Hunt also worked at improving his flexibility over the summer, which should alleviate back problems he has had in the past. His conditioning has improved also. Players are tested for the half-mile on the court, 28 trips up and down the court. Georges-Hunt ran it in 3:10 this year, down from 3:35 a year ago.

It is a notable development for the Jackets, who will rely heavily upon Georges-Hunt this season. Georges-Hunt was second on the team in scoring at 11.7 points per game, second in assists (2.1 per game) and fourth in rebounding (4.3).

He attributed part of his improved body to better diet.

“I (still) eat Waffle House,” he said. “I just eat healthy.”
