Georgia State coach Trent Miles said he expects that linebacker Joseph Peterson will play in Saturday’s game against Louisiana-Lafayette at the Georgia Dome.

Peterson sustained a bone bruise or tendon issue in his foot during last week’s loss at Arkansas State.

Miles said X-rays were negative and that Peterson was scheduled to undergo an MRI on Tuesday.

Peterson is the team’s leading tackler this year and the leading tackler in school history.

If, for some reason, he can’t play, Ed Curney will replace him.

Offensive tackle Sebastian Willer is doubtful with a high ankle sprain. Michael Ivory may start his second consecutive game at left tackle.

Smith will stay: Glenn Smith will remain at running back for at least the rest of the season, Miles said.

In his first playing time at the position after moving from wide receiver, Smith led the Panthers with 16 carries for 82 yards last week.

Miles said the coaches tried to move Smith to running back last year, but instead decided to keep him at receiver, where he had seven receptions for 83 yards and a touchdown. However, Smith fe;l down the depth chart at receiver with the emergence of several players this season.

Miles said he doesn’t know if running back Taz Bateman will return this week. Bateman hasn’t played since suffering a broken forearm in the season’s second game. He was scheduled to undergo an X-ray on Tuesday that would determine if he could play.
