The knock on Georgia quarterback Hutson Mason is that he’s not a great passer and not very mobile. Yet there is evidence that neither assertion is based in fact.

Against Missouri this past Saturday Mason’s 78.6 completion percentage on 22-of-28 passing was the fourth-highest percentage by Georgia quarterback under coach Mark Richt. Mason is now completing 70.5 percent of his passes this season. He has 843 yards with 8 TDs and 3 interceptions.

And while Mason isn’t known for his fleet feet, he has displayed some pretty good timing when it comes when to run. His 11-yard touchdown run on Saturday represented his third this season and the fifth of his career. Four times now he’s had a rushing TD and passing TD in the same game.

“He’s doing a nice job,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said. “He’s very accurate. We’re not going downfield a lot, more intermediate-type throws. But he’s on the money, he’s in control and he’s making good decisions. He’s getting in the right running game, too. I’m happy with the way he’s playing.”
