Former Georgia Tech guard Marcus Georges-Hunt has accepted an invitation to play in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, a pre-draft showcase for players who have just finished their senior seasons.
Georges-Hunt is one of 64 players in the four-day event in Portsmouth, Va., that begins Wednesday. Scouts from across the NBA will be present. The Portsmouth tournament does not attract likely draftees, rather players who probably will be signed after the draft and added to summer-league rosters. Of the 17 seniors listed in the DraftExpress.com’s mock draft of the NBA’s 60-player selection, only two are scheduled to be in Portsmouth (Florida’s Dorian Finney-Smith and Texas’ Prince Ibeh).
Georges-Hunt was named All-ACC this past season, averaging 16.7 points per game with 3.4 rebounds and 3.3 assists. He led the Yellow Jackets to their first postseason appearance since 2010, helping Tech reach the NIT quarterfinals. NBA senior scouting director Ryan Blake said that Georges-Hunt's strong senior season "opened a lot of eyes in terms of from the NBA."
