Not a bad day for former Georgia Tech B-back Zach Laskey.

He earned his degree in history, technology and society at McCamish Pavilion Saturday morning and then, after waiting out the final four rounds of the NFL draft, agreed to an undrafted free-agent contract with the St. Louis Rams minutes after the draft ended.

“Yeah, it’s been an amazing day,” Laskey wrote in a text message.

Laskey’s draft status was precarious going into the draft process. He wasn’t even included on the NFL website’s list of running back draft candidates. But he backed up his senior season (851 rushing yards, nine touchdowns) with a strong pro day performance, running the 40-yard dash in 4.58 seconds and putting up other scores that compared favorably with running backs invited to the NFL draft combine.

In St. Louis, Laskey will be familiar with at least one member of his new position group – former Georgia running back Todd Gurley, whom St. Louis took with the 10th overall pick.
