MACON — Most of Kennesaw State's football players haven't been in a game in more than a year.

But, not unexpectedly, quarterback Trey White and defensive back Taylor Henkle are confident the team will have a winning record in this, their inaugural year of football.

“If you’re going to ask me I’m going to say we’re going undefeated,” White said with a laugh.

Coach Brian Bohannon predicted six wins, which would be a winning season. He cautioned that the long-range goal is to compete for a championship in five years.

White, a junior, hasn’t played against an opponent other than his teammates since his senior year of high school at St. Pius.

The Owls practiced together all last year and have been waiting for their first game, and their first chance to start on that winning record. That wait is over when they play at East Tennessee State on Sept. 3.

With the exception of ETSU, every opponent on Kennesaw State’s schedule will have more college experience than the Owls.

But Henkle is confident that the players are putting in the work necessary to be successful sooner rather than later.

“We know we’re not going to be as big and fast or experienced as teams we’re going to be playing, so we have to bring something a little different,” he said at today’s Pigskin Preview in Macon. “The training that our strength staff is doing is I think different from other programs. … I think the key is we’re going to outlast teams. That’s the goal.”
