Who: Shorter at Kennesaw State
When: 1 p.m. Saturday
Three things to know
1. The Owls have outscored their first two opponents, East Tennessee State and Edward Waters, 114-23. They are averaging 361.5 rushing yards and 83 passing yards per game, while allowing averages of 135.5 passing and 129 rushing yards per game.
2. Quarterback Trey While leads the Owls with an average of 79.5 rushing yards per game. There are seven Kennesaw State players averaging at least 21.5 rushing yards per game. The team has lost just 24 yards rushing.
3. Only two players, Justin Sumpter and Prentice Stone, have caught passes. Sumpter has three receptions for 151 yards and two touchdowns, while Stone has one reception for 15 yards. Bohannon said it’s necessary for them to get the passing part of the offense going. They haven’t yet because the first two games have been blowouts.
Player to watch: Kennesaw State offense
QB Trey White. He ranks second in FCS with four rushing touchdowns and leads the Big South Conference with six touchdowns. He has averaged 5.7 yards per carry, not bad considering his longest run is only 21 yards.
Player to watch: Kennesaw State defense
DB Derrick Farrow. He forced three fumbles in Saturday's win. One led to a touchdown and one prevented a touchdown. The Owls have a turnover margin of plus-5.
Player to watch: Shorter offense
FB B.J. McCoy. He rushed for 139 yards and a touchdown in last week's loss to Carson-Newman. The B-back is coached by David Sims, a former fullback at Georgia Tech.
Player to watch: Shorter defense
S Jordan Shaw. He was the Gulf South Conference defensive player of the year and an All-American after snagging eight interceptions last season. He ranked third in conference in tackles (81) and fourth in tackles per game (7.8). He had 11 tackles in the season-opening loss to Carson-Newman.
