Georgia Tech won't have arguably its top defender for the first half of its game against Duke. The Yellow Jackets might be without possibly their best offensive player for both halves.

A-back Orwin Smith sustained an undisclosed injury in last week's loss to Virginia Tech and could miss Saturday's game against Duke, coach Paul Johnson said. Smith did not practice Tuesday.

At his Tuesday news conference, Johnson said he didn't think it was a serious injury, but that added, "If we had to play [Tuesday], he wouldn't be [available]."

The Yellow Jackets already won't have outside linebacker Jeremiah Attaochu for the first half of the game against the Blue Devils; he was suspended by Johnson for throwing a punch in the Virginia Tech game.

Smith is third on the team in rushing with 570 yards, coming in just 53 carries for a 10.8 yards-per-carry average. He also has scored 11 touchdowns and averages 23.8 yards per reception. Johnson said the back suffered the injury in the second half of the game.

If Smith doesn't play, Embry Peeples is the likely replacement and Tony Zenon would receive more playing time, as might Deon Hill and Robert Godhigh.
