Georgia Tech defensive tackle Jabari Hunt-Days has regained his academic eligibility, coach Paul Johnson said Saturday following the team’s first practice of the preseason.

“He’s good to go,” Johnson said.

Hunt-Days, who was declared ineligible in May 2014 and missed the season, will have one season of eligibility. His eligibility was restored following the summer semester, which officially ended Saturday. The outcome was expected, as coaches have given encouraging updates on Hunt-Days’ progress since last fall.

“I’m happy for him,” Johnson said. “He’s worked hard to get back out there. He got it accomplished. I think (the grades) have to be posted or something, but we’re pretty confident he’s good.”

Hunt-Days reported to camp Friday and practiced with the team Saturday morning, starting out with the second-string defense. His return stands to be a pivotal gain for Tech’s defense, which ranked 111th in the country last season in yards per play (6.32) but returns eight starters. Teammates and coaches lauded his work last season on the scout team and in spring practice. After last season, right guard Shaquille Mason credited Hunt-Days with helping him develop into an All-American and said he was the best defensive lineman he faced all season.
