Hurdles remain for Hunt-Days to regain eligibility

May 12, 2015

AMELIA ISLAND, Fla. - Georgia Tech defensive tackle Jabari Hunt-Days made it through the spring semester. However, he still has work remaining before he can regain his academic eligibility, coach Paul Johnson said Tuesday at the ACC meetings.

“We’ll see,” Johnson said. “He’s still got some hurdles to get through, but I feel good about the possibility.”

Hunt-Days, who was declared ineligible in May 2014, can have his eligibility restored after summer school, Johnson said. He has not been put back on scholarship yet. Hunt-Days became ineligible for not having made enough progress towards his degree at the end of his third (redshirt sophomore) year.

Should he regain his eligibility, he will have one season remaining. Coaches and teammates have high hopes for Hunt-Days, who was a dominant member of the scout team last fall while ineligible. He started 21 games and made 129 tackles in his first two seasons, playing linebacker.

“I’m sure he’s going to come into the summer ready to work and it’s going to be a thing where we’ve got to push each other to be the best that we can be,” defensive tackle Adam Gotsis said of Hunt-Days during spring practice.
