Georgia Tech could have defensive lineman Jabari Hunt-Days available for the bowl game, coach Paul Johnson said Tuesday. Hunt-Days has been academically ineligible this semester but could regain his eligibility following the end of the semester.
“There’d be no reason not to play him,” coach Paul Johnson said of Hunt-Days.
Hunt-Days was declared academically ineligible after the spring semester because he had fallen behind an NCAA-instituted checkpoint that measures progress towards graduation. He could earn reinstatement with sufficient progress this semester. Grades become official in mid-December.
As Hunt-Days has already redshirted, playing this season would not impact his remaining eligibility. He will have one season remaining after this season whether he plays in a bowl game or not. Hunt-Days has been playing on the defensive scout team and has received praise for his work preparing Tech’s offensive line.
“I think Jabari challenges both (guards) Shaq (Mason) and Trey Mason tremendously,” quarterback Tim Byerly said, “and I think that’s a testament to our success this year.”
Defensive end Kenderius Whitehead cannot become eligible for the bowl game. Whitehead is sitting out the entire year as a transfer, as he did not complete degree requirements at Georgia Military College.
