Harvey-Clemons dismissed by Bulldogs

Josh Harvey-Clemons finally ran out of rope.

The Georgia Bulldogs dismissed the star defensive player on Tuesday for an undisclosed violation of team rules. A sophomore safety from Valdosta, Harvey-Clemons was already in the midst of a four-game suspension for a second violation of UGA’s marijuana-use policy. A third offense calls for “permanent suspension and scholarship termination,” according to the athletic association’s student-athlete handbook.

Georgia did not specify the reason in a two-sentence announcement released by the school via email Tuesday afternoon.

A 5-star recruit signee out of Lowndes, Harvey-Clemons, started all 11 games he played in this past season and was the Bulldogs’ third-leading tackler with 66 stops. He missed the first game and last game of the year due to suspensions. He missed the Gator Bowl as the first of a four-game suspension for a second-strike of the marijuana policy.

Harvey-Clemons’ first marijuana run-in came a year ago when he admitted to police he had been smoking pot in a dorm room with teammate Ty Flournoy-Smith. Neither player was arrested but Flournoy-Smith, who had already had an arrest on his record, was dismissed from the team.

A rising junior, Harvey-Clemons could resume his career elsewhere but would have to sit out one season at another FBS school. He could also sit out next season and enter the NFL draft.
